To host a web site you will need to register a domain name. This is a name that gives you individuality and as long as the registration is kept up to date (which we do automatically) the domain name remains yours to use.

The name may reflect you business name, your line of work, the type of product you supply or something completely different. We can provide advice on a suitable name and register it for you, on the phone while you wait if necessary, as long as it is not already in use.

When you host your domain name any mail received (e.g. info@yoursite.co.uk) will be forwarded to your own e-mail address no matter who you are using for your Internet connection. You can register a domain name and have it set up to forward your e-mail without setting up or paying for web hosting. This is useful if you need another domain name or a private e-mail address but don't want an associated web site.

Domain names are usually renewed every 2 years but there may be the option to renew every year or up to every 5 years. If the domain name is hosted with us then it is automatically re-registered every 2 years.

If you want to know if a domain name is free or who owns a '.uk' name then go to www.nominet.net and for a '.com' etc go to www.whois.net, find the entry text box and enter the domain name (e.g. yoursite.co.uk).
